Pete has weathered his first week of the program and we now have an idea of what's lays ahead for us from now until the end of May.
We leave home at 6.30 am and arrive at the University of Alberta Hospital Rehabilitation Center at 8.30 am. Every day Pete begins with physio for about 2 hours. The gym is full with those who are waiting for transplants and those who have had their transplants. I must say that it's quite exciting to be there and it's awesome to see how well those patients who have received a transplant are doing. Also very encouraging for Pete!
After physio there generally is a meeting to attend. These vary from:
- going to clinic every Monday and meeting with the doctors
- having regular sit downs with the occupational therapist
- health and wellness sessions
- patient only support group
- care giver only support group
- what to expect after a transplant
- family support coordinator
- nutritional discussions with the dietician
- sleep hygiene and action plans
- emotional and spiritual well being through the transplant journey
- physio for after the transplant
- ICU tour
- open sessions for the group with the transplant coordinator
All in all Pete will be kept busy and also be monitored every step of the way. At this point he is still at a status 0 (non active), but can at any point during this 6 week period be moved up to a status 1 (active) which means that they are actively searching for a double set of lungs for Pete.
During this time period the Team is also carefully assessing Pete's dedication to the program.......
I will not be posting anything else until after the 6 weeks are finished, unless of course if there's a change.
